TuneUp 6.0 Pro soups up SCO servers
Administrators who want to wring the last drop of performance from their SCO servers should buy Olympus Software Inc's TuneUp 6.0 Pro, which contains a large arsenal of tools for spotting and plugging the most insidious performance drains.
PC Week Labs found the upgrade's most prominent new feature is the capability to review the last 100 process time slices. While the time frame associated with Unix processes might be fleeting, that's all it takes to catch runaway processes or see why a process is terminating. It also can archive server states for future reference. The CPU time hogs and kernel subsystems sections have been expanded in 6.0, and reports can now be prined to aid in troubleshooting and establishing baselines. How- ever, the tool does not graph performance, unlike other products, such as SCO Doctor for Networks.
TuneUp 6.0 Pro can modify kernel-tuning parameters for optimum performance, allowing an administrator to change parameters as desired. The tool also can view the parameters of other networked SCO servers that are running TuneUp 6.0 Pro or Lite, although it cannot modify the remote servers' parameters.
